This one is different.
Normally, when I put together an end-of-summer mix, Progressive House is never very far away. This time I didn’t pay much attention to genre at all. I simply followed the music.
The result is difficult to categorize – deep, spacious, atmospheric, sometimes hypnotic, sometimes emotional, with sounds that wander through several corners of electronic music. It isn’t really a club set, and it wasn’t built around what’s banging hardest on the dance floor. It’s more of a late-night journey.
And maybe that’s appropriate, because I’ve never liked the end of summer.
I’m a spring-and-summer person. Long days, warm nights, open windows, beaches and palm trees – I’ll take all of it. Fall and winter can wait as far as I’m concerned. So this isn’t a celebration of summer ending. It’s more like trying to hold onto the last warm night for another two and a half hours.
Interestingly, I didn’t set out to give the mix a story. But look through the titles: Clarity. Every Day. Last Sunset. Far Beyond. Exploration. Don’t Go. Feel. Glimpse of the Past. All I Need. L.I.F.E. Inner Voyage.
Somehow, the story seems to have written itself.
It’s unusual for me. It’s hard to put into a genre.
And I think I’m okay with that.
Turn it up, settle in, and come along for the ride.
